HYMN OF THE DAY
Compared with Christ, in all beside
No beauty can I see
The one thing needful, dearest Lord
Is to be one with Thee.
The sense of thy redeeming love
Into my soul convey
Thyself bestow, for Thee alone
My All-in all, I pray.
Less than Thyself will not suffice
My comfort to restore
More than Thyself I can not crave
And thou cans’t give no more.
Loved of my God, for Him again
With love intense I’d burn
Chosen of Thee ere time began
I’d choose Thee in return.
(Tune: “Amazing Grace” p. 236)

“Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.” -Proverb
10:12
LOVE IS NOT EASILY PROVOKED
“Charity….is not easily provoked.” It is not touchy, irritable,
and easily roused to anger toward the object of its affection. When someone
is touchy and easily offended, it is because of the absence of love. Love
is what love does, and love is not easily provoked.

YOU ARE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE
Paul says twice to the Corinthians, “For ye are bought with a price”
(I Cor. 6:20; I Cor. 7:23). And at what a cost! The Lord Jesus Christ had
to assume our nature, keep the law f or us, and suffer and die under the wrath
of God as our sin bearing substitute. His own precious blood was the price
He paid. In I Cor. 6:20, Paul said, “Therefore glorify God in your body
and spirit, which are God’s.” The body that He redeemed is to
be presented to Him a living sacrifice. The Spirit which He gave is to be
wholly consecrated to Him. In I Cor. 7:23, He said, “For ye are bought
with a price: be not ye the servants of men.” I am not to live in a
slavish fear of what men think. I am to seek to serve Him only. “Ye
are bought with a price.” That is enough to cause the one who has been
bought to willingly give themselves wholly to the Lord. & nbsp;

The unsoundness of a vessel is not seen when it is empty, but when it is filled
with water, then we shall see whether it will leak or not. It is in our prosperity
that we are tested. Men are not fully discovered of themselves till they are
tried by the fullness of success. Praise finds out the crack of pride; wealth
reveals the flaw of selfishness; and learning discovers the leak of unbelief.
David’s (troublesome) sin was little seen in the tracks of the wild
goats, but it became conspicuous upon the terraces of his palace. Success
is the crucible of character. Hence, the prosperity which some welcome as
an unmixed favor may far more rightly be regarded as an intense form of test.
O, Lord, preserve us when we are full as much as when we are empty! - Thomas
Manton

Christ on the cross guarantees peace of conscience, while Christ on the Throne
give peace of heart, His death cancels our condemnation, and His life guarantees
our access to the very presence of God.

THE “ALPHA AND OMEGA” IN THE SAVLATION OF SINNERS
Philosophy and religion both discard at once the very thought of free-will;
and I will go as far as Martin Luther, in that strong assertion of his, where
he says, “If any man doth ascribe aught of salvation, even the very
least, to the free-will of man, he knoweth nothing of grace, and he hath not
learnt Jesus Christ aright.” It may seem a harsh sentiment; but he who
in his soul believes that man does of his own free-will turn to God, cannot
have bee n taught of God, for that is one of the first principles taught us
when God begins with us, that we have neither will nor power, but that he
gives both; that he is “Alpha and Omega” in the salvation of men.
– C. H. Spurgeon

Man, in his natural state has no desire for the things of God, no interest
in the Gospel or saving grace; and when circumstances of sickness, sorrow,
or fear generate some interest, it is usually not sincere or lasting! But,
when God is pleased to cross a person’s path, awaken His sleeping soul,
and create an interest in spiritual matters, that interest is not only sincere
and genuine, but will certainly result in salvation and eternal glory. Christ
said, “Every man that hath heard and learned of the Father, COMETH UNTO
ME!” - Pastor Henry Mahan

We are not desirous of honor, esteem and applause from men, for “we
are what we are by the grace of God”. God can take away what we have
as easily as He gave it. We do not despise and provoke one another with our
piety; nor do we want to appear to be wiser, richer in grace, nor more gifted
than others; for we are less than the least of the saints. Not do we envy
the gifts, abilities, or grace of another. God will enlighten us, equip us,
and bless us as He sees fit to use us.
