Sunday 10:00am WLEX TV Channel 18

It is requested that all children under the age of five stay in our nursery
so there will be no distractions during the preaching of the Gospel.

HYMN OF THE DAY
Now may the Lord reveal His grace
And teach our stamm’ring tongues
To make His sovereign, reigning grace
The subject of our songs.

No sweeter subject can invite
A sinner’s heart to sing
Or more display the glorious right
Of our exalted King.

Grace reigns to pardon crimson sins
To melt the hardest hearts
And from the work it once begins
It never once departs.

‘Twas grace that called our souls at first
By grace thus far we’re come
And grace will help us through the worst
And grace will take us home.

(Tune: “Begin, My Tongue, Some Heavenly Theme” p. 5)

RECEIVING THE LOVE OF THE TRUTH
“Because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved” (II Thess. 2:10). It is possible to receive the Truth without receiving the love of the Truth. Merely receiving the truth is an acknowledgment that the Bible does in fact teach some particular doctrine. That is believing with the intellect and nothing more. Such receiving of the truth will not end in salvation, but certain destruction. Paul goes on to say of these people “and for this cause (because they received not the love of the truth) God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” It is one thing to believe the Bible is God’s word. It is another thing to love that it is so. It is one thing to believe the Bible teaches the sovereignty of God. It is another thing to love the God who is sovereign. It is one thing to acknowledge the Bible teaches election. It is another thing to love the God who elected sinners in Christ. It is one thing to agree that Christ is the only way. It is another to love Him as the only way. Where the Truth is not received in the love of it, it is not really believed.

FAITH
Israel was given the law, kept it outwardly, but was turned away from the Promised Land because of their unbelief.
The publican, making no attempt to keep the law as he swindled away people’s taxes, cried, “God be merciful to me a sinner!” – and went down to his house justified, not guilty.
Faith does not attempt to keep the law…faith casts itself upon the mercy of God. – Brian DuFour
Last words of Scottish Preacher, Mr. James Guthrie – June 1, 1661
(From the scaffold where he was beheaded for preaching the Gospel)

I am come hither to lay down my life this day, and I bless God, I die not as a fool; not that I have anything wherein to glory in myself: I acknowledge that I am a sinner, yea, one of the greatest and vilest that has owned a profession of religion, and one of the most unworthy that has preached the Gospel. My corruptions have been strong and many, and have made me a sinner in all things, yea, even in following my duty; and therefore, righteousness have I none of my own, all is vile. But I do believe “that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, whereof I am chief;” through faith in His righteousness and blood have I obtained mercy; and through Him, and in Him alone, have I the hope of a blessed conquest and victory over sin and Satan, and hell and death, and that I shall attain unto the resurrection of the just, and be made partaker of eternal life. “I know whom I have believed, and that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.” I have preached salvation through His name, and as I have preached, so do I believe, and do commend the riches of His free grace and faith in His name unto you all, as the only way whereby ye can be saved.

RECONCILIATION
Reconciliation in the New Testament sense is not something which we accomplish when we lay aside our enmity to God; it is something which God accomplished, when in the death of Christ He put away everything that on His side meant estrangement. – James Denney
