HYMN OF THE DAY
To Christ the Lord let ev’ry tongue
Its noblest tribute bring
When He’s the subject of the song
Who can refuse sing? (Repeat)
Survey the beauties of His face
And on His glories dwell
Think of the wonders of His grace
And all His victories tell! (Repeat)
Thou hast redeemed our souls with blood
Hast set the prisoners free
Hast made us kings and priests to God
And we shall reign with Thee. (Repeat)
The whole creation join as one
To bless that Holy name
Of Him who sits upon the throne
And to adore the Lamb. (Repeat)
(Tune: “Majestic Sweetness” p.52)

“Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou
shalt be satisfied with bread.” - Proverb 20:13
A GOOD NAME
“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches,
and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” - Proverbs 22:1
“A good name is better than precious ointment.” - Ecclesiastes
7:1
Surely this good name is the new name that Christ gives to every believer.
That good name written in the Lamb’s book of life. A good name is also
the character of the person behind the name. It is the memories and thoughts
that name evokes when that name is mentioned. When my name is mentioned to
people who know me, what comes to their mind? A kind man or a harsh man? A
critic or an encourager? Judgmental or gracious? Faithful or unfaithful? Generous
or selfish? Friendly or moody? Approachable or unapproachable? A giver or
a taker? Oh, that God will give us grace so that when our name is mentioned,
a Christian is what comes to the mind of those who hear our name.

WHO CAN TAME THE TONGUE?
“But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly
poison” (James 3:8). I have tried to tame mine, and out come words of
criticism, hurt, and self-justification. But God can and does tame the tongue.
I cannot tame my tongue, but I want it to be tamed by the grace of God! Lord,
tame my tongue, so that the words that come out of my mo uth are true, gracious,
kind, and encouraging. Somebody once said that everything that passes through
our lips ought to go through these three checkpoints: 1) Is it true? 2) Is
it necessary to say? 3) Is it kind? When, by the grace of God, our words go
through those three checkpoints, we are speaking with a tamed tongue. Tamed
by the grace of God.

What does it mean to humble yourself before God? There are many things that
could be said. Peter put it this way, “Humble yourselves therefore under
the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: casting all your
care upon Him, for He careth for you!” (I Peter 5:6-7). We do not humble
ourselves under His mighty hand unless we cast ALL of our care upon Him.
“Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.” (Galatians 5:2)
It is a man’s guilt that makes Christ necessary for him; but it is
a man’s righteousness that will render Christ in effective for him.
The blood of Christ is the remedy for a man’s sin, but what shall avail
for a remedy for a man’s righteousness? Only the sovereign work of the
Holy Spirit of God is able to overcome a man’s resistance to the grace
of the blood and to make him despair of even his righteousness. But, to refine
the point even more, it is the Holy Spirit’s work in revealing the testimony
of the blood of Christ that breaks the self-righteous will of man and makes
him submit to Christ as his only righteousness before God. So it is the blood
poured out by Christ that remedies the sin of a man, and it is the same blood
revealed by the Holy Spirit that remedies the righteousness of man. –

Let us learn never to despair of the salvation of anyone – as long as
he lives. Fathers ought never to despair of prodigal sons. Mothers ought never
to despair of self-willed, headstrong daughters. Husbands should never despair
of wives, nor wives of husbands. There is nothing impossible with God. The
arm of grace is very long, and can reach those who seem very far off. Let
us pray on, and hope on, for others – however unlikely their salvation
may appear to be at present. “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too
short to sa ve!” (Isaiah 59:1)

God is a God of Truth and Love. Not of one more than the other, not of one
against the other and not of one at the expense of the other. Wherever the
Truth is, Love is; and wherever Love is, Truth will be also. The Apostle commands
us to speak the truth in love, but he does say emphatically to speak the truth!
Where the truth is not spoken, all outward manifestations that appear as love
are but a sham.
