It is requested that all children under the age of five stay in our nursery
so there will be no distractions during the preaching of the Gospel.
HYMN OF THE DAY
When oceans vast their depths reveal
And moons have ceased to wain
The Lamb, who died and rose again
On Zion’s hill shall reign.
His glorious name must long endure
When suns have ceased to shine< /FONT>
And through eternity the saints
Will sing His praise divine.
As countless as the drops of dew
Or sands upon the shore
And blessings which the ransomed have
In Him forevermore.
Let ev’ry other name recede
His name alone extol
In Him reserved there is the grace
To satisfy my soul.
(Tune: “Amazing Grace” p.236)

A PROMISE AND A PRAYER
Here is a precious promise from the word of God. “Sin shall not have dominion
over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace” (Romans 6:14).
God’s sovereign grace simply will not allow any sin to have dominion over
any believer. This is the promise of grace! But who among us has not felt that
sin did in fact have dominion over them? It seems that I would not continue
to commit it if it did not have dominion over me. But the promise of grace is
still “sin shall not have dominion over you.” Here is a prayer.
“Let not any iniquity have dominion over me” (Psalm 119:33). Lord,
you promised in your word that sin would not have dominion over me, because
I am not under law but under grace. Do what you said you would do. Let not any
iniquity have dominion over me!

THE MEASURE OF LOVE
Love is measured by what it gives. “God so loved the world that He gave
His only begotten Son.” The greatness of His love to us was seen by what
He gave. The same is true of us. Our love to Him is measured by how we give.
Our giving “proves the sincerity of our love” (II Cor. 8:7). If
some people’s love was judged by what they said, their love to Christ
would be great. But if their love to Christ was measured by what and how they
gave, their love would be very small. Giving is a love issue. It is true, you
can give without loving. But it is equally true that you cannot love without
giving. We delight in giving to those we love. Could that be why “God
loveth a cheerful giver” (II Cor. 9:7).

God’s elect worship and serve Him with willing hearts. We willingly believe,
willingly worship, willingly give, and willingly do what we can for the glory
of God. It is God Who, by effectual grace, makes us willing; but we are willing
servants of the Most High God! Any worship, service, or gifts offered to God
that is not done with a willing heart is an abomination to Him. - Pastor Scott
Richardson
It would be an utter waste of time to try to remove the offense of the cross
from Gospel preaching. The message of the cross is offensive to the flesh, so
the only way to remove that offense is to remove the cross. It would be good
for all of us to try to remove from ourselves any offense arising from our methods,
conduct or personality; but, if we are to be any glory to Christ or any good
whatsoever to those who hear us, we must, with all plainness and diligence,
declare the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ in a way that not only does not hide
its offence, but actually accents its offense. Those things about our Lord and
His cross which are most offensive to the flesh are the very things most helpful
to the sinner: man’s total depravity and inability to do anything pleasing
to God; God’s sovereign disposition of His grace according to His will
in election and predestination; Christ’s effective and particular redemption
of God’s elect, and the Holy Spirit’s sovereign, omnipotent call
of God’s elect, which call never fails. Yes, we could gain more hearers
if we allowed for a little of man’s righteousness, will, and works to
enter into the scheme of the Gospel. But it would prove our undoing and the
destruction of our hearers. The fact is, the glory and power of the cross lie
in its offense. ; - Pastor Joe Terrell

WHAT SHALL WE DO?
“What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered
and said unto them, this is the work of God,
that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” - John 6:28-29
The work of a believer is to believe…believe that the work of salvation
is finished. When a work is finished, there is nothing left to do. “Now
to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to
him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his
faith is counted for righteousness.” (Romans 4:4-5)
So wh at shall we do to be found righteous before a holy God? Simply trust Christ,
believing that He finished the work of salvation for you, and your faith is
counted for righteousness. - Brian DuFour
